FAQ of Low Voltage Spotlights

What can a spotlight really do for your yard at night?

A well-placed spotlight does more than illuminate — it transforms.

Here’s how:

  • Highlight Key Features – Accentuate trees, statues, or architectural textures with focused beams.
  • Add Depth & Contrast – Create layers of light and shadow to bring dimension and drama to your yard.
  • Enhance Curb Appeal – Give your home a polished, high-end look that stands out after dark.
  • Improve Safety & Visibility – Light pathways, entries, or signage for safer, more welcoming spaces.
  • Extend Outdoor Living – Make patios and gardens usable and beautiful even after sunset.
How do I choose the right outdoor landscape spotlight for my yard?
  1. Size and Layout of Your Outdoor Space: The first step in choosing the right spotlight is to consider the size of your yard or outdoor space. Bigger areas may require more, or more powerful, lights for adequate illumination. The layout is also crucial; consider the locations of pathways, decks, patios, water features, or particular trees or plants you might want to highlight.
  2. Purpose of the Lighting: Are you looking to provide security, highlight features, or create ambient outdoor lighting for entertainment? Your purpose will influence the type and positioning of the spotlights.
  3. Style of Your Outdoor Area: Your outdoor area likely has a particular style, whether it's modern, rustic, or something else. It's important that your spotlights match this style to ensure visual consistency.
  4. Lighting Effect: Different spotlights can produce different lighting effects. Some can create a broad, diffuse light, while others can produce a narrow, focused beam. Your desired effect will guide your choice of spotlight.
  5. Power and Energy Efficiency: You'll need to consider the power source for your spotlights. Most outdoor spotlights are either hardwired into your home's electrical system or solar-powered. You should also consider the energy efficiency of the lights; LED lights are often a good choice for their balance of brightness and energy efficiency.
  6. Durability: Outdoor lights need to withstand various weather conditions, so you should look for spotlights specifically designed for outdoor use. They should have weather-resistant features, like waterproofing.

Remember, while you can certainly start the process of choosing landscape spotlights on your own, you may want to consult with a professional landscaper or lighting professional to make the most informed choices.

Differences between various Gardenreet spotlights?

Firstly, when using bulbs with the same wattage and beam angle, the lighting effects produced by different spotlights are the same.

Here are the main differences between them:

1. Size: The smallest ones are 2103 and 2104, followed by 2101, and the largest ones are 2102, 2106, 2105, and 2108.

2. Presence of anti-glare shield: 2102, 2103, 2106, and 2104 come with adjustable anti-glare shields, which effectively prevent glare.

3. Different bulb types: 2101, 2102, 2105, 2106, and 2108 use MR16 bulbs, 2103 uses MR11 bulbs, and 2104 uses MR8 bulbs. The difference lies in the wattage and beam angle of these bulb types. MR16 bulbs have higher wattage and wider beam angle, making them suitable for a wider range of applications and more popular. MR8 and MR11 bulbs have lower wattage and narrower beam angle (the numbers 8, 11, and 16 refer to the diameter of the bulbs, and generally, the larger the diameter, the higher the wattage and beam angle).

Consider the appearance of the spotlights as well and choose the one that you prefer for focused lighting.

What type of bulb do these spotlights use?

Our spotlights typically use LED MR16 bulbs due to their energy efficiency and long lifespan.

What sets spotlights apart from floodlights?

Beam Control – Spotlights deliver a focused, narrow beam (typically 15°–45°), ideal for highlighting trees, statues, or architectural features. Floodlights have a wider beam (60°+), better for general area lighting.

Purpose – Spotlights are for accent lighting — they create drama, contrast, and visual layers. Floodlights are for coverage — they light up large areas for safety or visibility.

Design Intent – Spotlights help you tell a visual story in your landscape. Floodlights simply brighten.

How many lumens do I need for outdoor spot light?

The number of lumens required for an outdoor spotlight will vary depending on your specific needs, the size of the area you're illuminating, and the effect you're looking to create. Here's a general guideline to help you:

  1. Path Lighting: Path lights generally can be softer, as they don't need to illuminate a large area. You might want to aim for about 100-200 lumens for a path light.
  2. Garden Lighting: To highlight an object or landscape feature, you might need a little more power. A garden spotlight can be around 120-300 lumens.
  3. Security Lighting: For outdoor security lights, more lumens generally means a more illuminated space. Consider a range between 700-2000 lumens for security lighting, depending on the size of the area you want to light up.
  4. Patio or Flood Lighting: For larger spaces, such as a patio or a driveway, you might want to consider even more lumens. A good range to aim for is between 500-1500 lumens.

Keep in mind these are general estimates, and your specific needs may vary. You also want to consider the number of lights you're planning to use, their placement, and the color of the light (warmer or cooler light can affect how bright the light appears). As always, if you're unsure, consider consulting with a lighting professional.

Does it come with a transformer?

The transformer is not included when purchasing the spotlight alone. To get a transformer, please select the combo set.

Does this kit include wire(cable)? If so how many feet?

All landscape lighting kits include wire, which is 100 to 250 feet in length.

How many lights can be used in one transformer?

Depends on the power of the transformer and the bulbs, while the electrical energy will inevitably lose 20% of the voltage during transmission.
For example, if the transformer is 150W and each bulb is 5W, then 24 fixtures can be installed (150 x 80% ÷ 5).

Can these fixtures be used with rgb-w multiple color bulbs?

Yes, rgb bulbs are also applicable.
